Human clicks versus bot traffic
Share a link in a chat app or on social media and the platform fetches the page to build a preview before any person taps it. Search engines and security scanners do the same. EditURLink recognises these requests and records them separately, so your human click figure reflects people rather than machines.
What link tracking cannot tell you
Analytics stop at the click. What someone does after they arrive belongs to your own website analytics — which is exactly where UTM campaign tags help, because they tell your analytics tool where the visitor came from.
Beta limits
The Free Beta records up to 1,000 human clicks a month. If you reach that, your links keep redirecting normally and recording resumes the following month.
Questions people ask
- What does EditURLink record for each click?
- The time of the click, whether it came from a person or a known bot, the broad device type, the country reported by the network, and the referring site when the browser sends one.
- Do WhatsApp and Facebook link previews count as clicks?
- No. Requests from known preview services and crawlers are marked as bot traffic and kept out of your human click figures.
- Do you track individual people?
- No. There are no tracking cookies and no personal profiles. IP addresses are stored only as a one-way hash used to tell visits apart.
